Young’s to Host Community WinterFest

IRON RIVER – On Jan. 26-27, Young’s hosts its first annual WinterFest which will feature a variety of free activities for the community. Families can enjoy free snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, free swimming, dog sled rides, contests, and more. A dog sled race will take place on Friday, and there will be a bonfire and live music on both Friday and Saturday.

WinterFest will have something for everyone – adults can participate in smear and cribbage tournaments while children have the opportunity to win prizes in snowshoe and cross-country ski races. A winter staple, dog sledding events will be offered on both Friday and Saturday. A dog sled race will kick-off the festival on Friday night at 7p.m., and on Saturday at 1:30p.m., dog sledding advocate, Tom Bauer, will do a dog sledding presentation followed by free dog sled rides until 4p.m. In addition to fun outdoor and indoor activities, guests can meet Young’s new Executive Chef, Kevin Amelio, as he grills up warm winter grub like chili, burgers, hot dogs, brats, and even a s’mores bar!

Recently under new management, Young’s continues to reorient itself as a family-focused and community-driven organization. Revitalized in its mission to host a wealth of recreational and educational activities for Iron County residents and beyond, WinterFest kicks off the new year as the first of many community-based events. General Manager, Jason Rivard, is excited to lead Young’s on this new path saying, “George and Margaret Young’s contribution to Iron County is invaluable, and we honor them by sticking to their original vision to develop this property as a place where the community can enjoy all it has to offer. We welcome everyone to join us at WinterFest to celebrate Iron County’s snow and to spend the day having fun with family and friends.” For more information and the full schedule of activities, call 265-3401 or visit Young’s Facebook page.
